Out and About from Lairbeck

To the shops

The Lairbeck Apartments are uniquely positioned only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Keswick, close to the A66 for easy access but in a very peaceful area of Keswick known as Vicarage Hill.

Route to town.pngThis map shows the shortest route to the supermarket area, which cuts through the High Hill area and past Keswick's Premier Inn.

Turning right from the Lairbeck car park and down Vicarage Hill, the route takes around 10 minutes, or a 15 minute slow stroll to take in the River Greta en route.

Route to top of town.pngTo the restaurants

If you're heading to the top end of Keswick with its restaurants and Alhambra Cinema, turn left from the Lairbeck car park along Vicarage Hill.

After crossing Crossthwaite Road and turning left in to Brundholme Road, the route takes in Fitz park, its cricket and football pitches and the mountain bike pump track.

Fine food around Keswick

Depending on your tastes there is a good selection of great restaurants in the area, but for special occasions the best three by far are Lyzzick Hall Hotel, The Restaurant at The Cottage in the Woods at Whinlatter (Michelin star) and the Horse and Farrier in Threlkeld.

All three are a 10 - 15 minute drive from Keswick, but if you’re keen on walking to one of Keswick’s fine restaurants, then you have many choices, however, given how busy the town is in summer you should book early. Acouple of favouriutes of ours are The Brossen steak house in Main Street (within the 'Inn on the Square' premesis) and The Pheasant Inn at the end of our streeet.  The latter is a small dog friendly restaurant albeit with a good atmosphere and nice food.

Fancy some cafe time?

In Keswick itself, you have a lovely cafe in Hope park in an area called The Heads, en route to the lake.

Our favourute is Cafe HNW in Upper Fitz Park, serving lovely breakfasts and food throughout the day in lovely surroundings where you can watch the crown green bowls or lawn tennis.

Well regarded Portinscale is a 15 minute walk across the footbridge from the Lairbeck, and has a very nice cafe called The Chalet Tearooms. If you head further on past Portinscale, the Lingholm Estate has the best walled garden cafe for miles.
